TO THE HEART: A Calling explores nature’s forces operating at extremes of scale. The work was filmed from a small boat, kilometres from the southernmost tip of the Tasmanian coast, at an altitude of 150 meters; the vocabulary of breath sounds was recorded just a few centimetres from the mouth.
Soprano and composer Jane Sheldon responds to the visual imagery and audio by weaving the rhythms of the ocean’s immense power into an evolving dialogue with the rhythms of the body, inviting a profound intimacy between these two forces and reminding us of the body’s deep continuity with the natural world.
